World War II Gaming The pictures above are from a Battlefront WWII game put on by Dan B. using 15mm figures. This system is "half-platoon" in scale. WFG's Frontline is a 1:1 skirmish level game that is usually hosted by Walt (the game designer himself) or Ed, using 54mm figures (and sometimes larger!..think GI Joe...) Other WWII land games have made the tables at Sand Creek, including Jagdpanther (hosted by Erick) and IDF (Israeli Defense Force, a miniatres conversion of an Avalon Hill board game, hosted by Gil; yah, that is a bit post-WWII, but the simulation theme is similar... see pix of this game behind Door #3!) NEWS
FROM THE FRONT!!! CL: Up close with the Panzers! Close inspection of the image in UR will reveal a couple M10's coming out of ambush to take the MkIV's in the flank. You can see the consequences here. End Result: One 105mm Priest for five MkIV's. CR: Now that the Panzer platoon is not a worry, the flanking action on the town gains steam. LL: Entrenched Germans watch mortars smoke the Observer on the Hill in the Center. LR: Is that a Tiger in between the houses? Can it alone stall the American assault long enough for reinforcements from the rear? Maybe... But no... the Americans did win in the end, but only because Ed's Tiger crew bailed after killing one Sherman and refused to get back in the tank for the rest of the game (that is what happens when you roll a "1" in this game...). |
