5 May 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Saturday was the May installment of the 2008 Blue Max/Canvas Eagles campaign. There was another large turnout for the game.

Game highlights:

We had two really solid games this past weekend, with over 16 people present. I believe the caliber of play is really improving. This means the sky is that much more dangerous, but it’s still a lot of fun.

The first game showed that despite the new Neiuports deployed by the allies, the Germans are still dominating the skies over the Somme battlefield. With an impressive 5 to 1 scored point advantage the Germans clearly won the first game.

The second game still had the Germans leading in points even though the kills were equal on both sides.

We also saw the return of Roland bomber formation. A castle in the sky that is daunting to attack. It was deployed by both sides throughout the evening.

Congrats to Kevin who found a new Roland and new crew and didn’t blow up in this game. He even got a kill.

Andy gets the Brave and lucky award for flying in his outdated Fokker E.III and surviving a dog fight with a Nieuport 16.

Kudos goes to Joe Alessi Jr. the kid with a heart of gold and a blood thirst that is scary to watch. If we had ramming rules I’m sure he would use him!

28 Apr 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Walt Williams hosted a WFG scenario for a dozen players Saturday night. It was an early war scenario set in 1939 with the Germans taking on the Allies.

13 Apr 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Walt Williams ran a WFG scenario Saturday night for about eight players while Lamont Anderson played a test game against one opponent of the new Field of Glory miniatures game by Osprey Publishing. Walt's game was set in the Pacific Theater of World War II with one side trying to get an allied truck convoy through Japanese held territory. The game was played on a "L" shaped map with the convoy following a narrow road through the jungle with hidden Japanese ambushers. It was a tough challenge for the allies to make it through to the other end of the map and there were some real tense moments as the Japanese repeatly attacked the convoy.

8 Apr 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Saturday saw Larry Neal hosting the April installment of the 2008 Blue Max/Canvas Eagles campaign. All the club officers want to thank everyone who came and played. It was our largest turnout for some time with over 20 participants and observers. The game was a blast and everyone appreciated the fact that in a sky so crowed with aircraft there was no place to hide.

Some of the game highlights:

- It was the first out of six games where the Allies defeated the Germans.
- It was the first game session where "Baron von Murray" did not score a kill.
- It was the first time (in a very long time..) where a novice scored 2 ½ kills. [Campaign Standings]
- It was the first successful use of a bomber formation.

24 Feb 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   World War II was the theme this past Saturday as two WW II games were played. Lamont Anderson, Luis Nunez and Robert Scholtz put on a 6000 point Flames of War battle depicting the American assualt on Hill 192 on July 11, 1944. Lamont and Luis commanded elements of the American 2nd Infantry Division against Robert's Germans. In a hard-fought game, Robert's Germans were forced to withdrawal after the Americans successfully broke the moral of the German defenders. Though the Germans lost, they were able to prevent the Americans capturing their two primary objectives.

While Lamont, Luis, and Robert battled in the boccage around Normandy, Walt Williams hosted an Eastern Front scenario of his Walt's Fun Game. Some eight players took part in the game as the mighty Wehrmacht battled the Soviets.

18 Feb 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Saturday night was quiet at the club as many of the members attended GenghisCon up in Denver for the weekend. Lamont Anderson hosted two events at the convention. On Friday he ran his Fear God and Dreadnought World War I naval war game and on Sunday he ran his Napoleon's Battles tournament. Both events had maximum participation and both got great reviews by those who played. The CSGA has supported GenghisCon for a number of years and having our club members put on events is greatly appreciated by the club. Thank you Lamont! Below are three pictures from Lamont's Napoleon's Battles tournament.

10 Feb 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Lamont Anderson hosted his computer moderated Fear God and Dreadnought World War I naval war game. Lamont was doing a dry-run of the scenario he would be presenting at GenghisCon XXIX in Denver over President's Day weekend. Some 12 players took part in the game depicting the British Navy's attempt to intercept a German flotilla in a fog bank in the North Sea. The night saw a lot of action as the British Navy hunted the German warships. The highlight of the night was when Andy Oertig orbliterated Luis Nunez's German light cruiser with only one salvo from the HMS Queen Mary. Luis has vowed revenge next time he faces Andy on the field of battle!

27 Jan 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   The weekly Saturday game night took place at the CSPG Falcon Division station in northern Colorado Springs. The player turn-out was very good with 14 players playing three differents games. Lamont hosted a Starmata tactical sci-fi game for five players; Dave Kuklin ran a WW II naval game for three; and, Walt Williams ran a WFG scenario for six players. The transition to the Falcon Division station went very smoothly. The new site is very similar to our normal meeting place so no distruptions to gaming is expected for the rest of our stay at our temporary location.

24 Jan 08:  CSGA's Temporary Game Site.   Due to a plumbing problem our normal place of play is currently out of commission.

I was on the phone yesterday and Sand Creek informed me while they hope it will be back at the end of February, it may be longer.

I called around to the other Police stations to find out if their community rooms were available. The Falcon Division police station had our normal time slot, 5:00pm to Midnight every Saturday night, completely open. So at the current moment the CSGA will be meeting at the Falcon Division police station.

It is located at the north end of town. At Highway 83 and Academy Blvd. Here is the address and a map.

13 Jan 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   Saturday night saw two World War II games being played: one a Flames of War late-war Eastern Front scenario hosted by Lamont Anderson, and the other was a WFG mid-war Pacific Theatre scenario hosted by Walt Williams. Four players battled on the Russian Steppes that saw the both the Germans and Russians fighting for control over a vital ridge in the center of the battlefield. In a bloody affair the Russians' superior numbers ultimately gave them the game. Over on the other table, 10 club members battled for control of a small village on a remote Pacific island. The game had fanatical Japanese soldiers battling determined American leathernecks. A number of Banzai charges were made by the Japanese attackers attempting to blow-up the American positions. Walt's WFG game always draws a crowd and tonight was another example of its popularity.

5 Jan 08:  Saturday Night Recap.   The first club night of 2008 was this Saturday and Lamont Anderson hosted a Starmata game and Ed Strecker brought his late-war Flames of War Russians to do battle against all comers. Lamont played a Star Wars - Ice planet Hoth scenario with players either flying Rebel cargo ships trying to leave Hoth or flying Imperial starships attempting to capture the fleeing rebels. Ed brought his Russian Naval infantry and armor units to fight for control of a railroad yard. Flames of War and Starmata are popular games at the club and all who played really enjoyed themselves.
