Saturday Game Night Recap.
Newly elected CSGA Vice-President Luis Nunez hosted a giant Flames Of War game Saturday night. The game map
was approximately 6' x 10' covering six tables. Some 10+ people played during the evening in a game
depicting a late-war Soviet assault on a German village in eastern Germany. Three Soviet Battalions assaulted
four German companies attempting to defend the village from being overrun by the Soviets. The game lasted
over four hours as the Germans doggedly held-off the Soviet attack.
After the game, Luis posted a blow-by-blow account of the battle on the Tactical Command Forum.

On Saturday, 8 December, the CSGA End-of-Year Business Meeting was held at the Sand Creek Police Station Community Room.
Vice President Larry Neal chaired the meeting which lasted approximately 15 minutes.
Highlights of the meeting included the voting on whether to give Claud Saling honorary CSGA membership for 2008 and 2009
and the 2008 CSGA Officers election. Members attending the meeting approved Claud's honorary membership and the officer
elections results are shown below:
2008 CSGA Officers:
CSGA President: Andy Oertig II
Upon completion of the election, the meeting was adjourned.
After the meeting, Larry Neal hosted the last Blue Max Campaign game for 2007. Awards for top pilot for the Allied and
Central Powers were awarded to Lamont Anderson and Jeff Murray. After the awards presentation, Central Powers ace Baron
von Murray took on everyone in attendance in one last action over no-man's land. Eventhough out-numbered 4-to-1, Baron
von Murray showed off his flying skill by shooting down Larry before eventually being downed just two turns before the
end of the game. Jeff's ability to keep his opponents at bay while repeatedly manuevering himself into position to
attack showed why he deserved the Blue Max medal he was awarded Saturday night!
The above three pictures show first, the two awards that were presented; second, Larry Neal presenting Jeff Murray
with the Blue Max medal for best Central Powers pilot; and third, Jeff modeling his medal. The three pictures below are

Saturday Game Night Recap.
Larry Neal hosted the second to the last Blue Max campaign game of the year Saturday night. Six players took part as once again the skies of over France saw the the daring-do of those boys in their flying machines. The first game saw the German aircraft scrambling to fend off a Allied air-raid on the German airfield. Jeff Murray led his formation against the Germans and successfully bombed the airfield, while personnally downing one of the German fighters. The Germans matched the Allies' kill with one of their own, but were unsuccessful in shooting down more enemy planes than German loses.
The second game saw the Germans on their own bombing mission against the Allied headquarters while the Allies attempted to spot for Allied artillery batteries. Luis Nunez joined for the second game and flew a Gotha bomber against the Allies. Luis quickly became the focal point of the battle as the Allies attempted to down the bomber. Unfortunately for them, the Gotha turned out to be the lure that quickly resulted in two Allied fighters being downed by the Germans. Replacement Allied planes joined the battle, but the damage was already done and the Germans easily completed their mission and then harrassed the Allied fighters until they were no longer capable of fighting due to damage inflicted on their planes by the Germans.
Dick Fickes also brought a game to the club, his 15mm Mexican American War (MAW) game - Battle of Palo Alto (first fight of the war in 1846) - It depicted the regular US army under Zachary Taylor against the Mexican Army under Arista in the battle that sets the tone for the rest of the war.

Saturday Game Night Recap.
Jeff Murry ran his 25mm Napoleon miniatures Saturday night while Walt Williams hosted a modern era WFG game.
For Jeff's Napoleonics game, Paul Womble, Mark Sanchez, and Dick Fickes commanded the British defenders against Jeff Murray and Rob Scholtz who commanded the French. The battlefield reminded the players of the steppes of Spain with the large open spaces on the map except for some crossroads on the left, a small river with a stone bridge in the center, and a hill on the right, looking from the French startin positions. The game scenario was a French attack on a defending British force with the French having to take two of the three land marks (crossroads, bridge, hill) on the battlefield. The British knew what one of the objectives was (the crossroads), but not the other and it was up to them to decided how to prevent the French from capturing their objectives. In a hard fought battle, the French captured both of their objectives while holding off a determined British counter-attack on the French left flank near the disputed crossroads. Below are a few pictures of Jeff's miniatures and the battle.

Saturday Game Night Recap.
10 players took park in our monthly Blue Max campaign game which Larry Neal is running on the second Saturday of each month through the end of 2007. The ten players were split in to two five-man teams and each player flew one mission as an Allied pilot and as Central Powers pilot.
The first game saw the Central Powers have a Strafing Mission against the Allied trenches while the Allied pilots had an interception mission where they needed to shoot down more enemies plane than were lost by the Allies. The Central Powers quickly accomplished their strafing mission and then turned their attention to downing as many Allied planes as possible. When the game reached its end point, the Central Powers had downed two Allied planes while suffering no losses themselves--a complete victory for the Central Powers!
The second Blue Max game of the night saw the Allies on a strafing mission while the Central Powers were on reconnaissance mission. Three Allied planes quickly went to work strafing the enemy lines while the remaining two looked to prevent the Central Powers from accomplishing their mission. This engagement saw three planes go down, two on the Central Powers side and one on the Allied side, but both teams accomplished their strategic missions.
The final pictures shows the current Blue Max standings for both the Allies and the Central Powers. Capt Murray of the Allies and Baron Von Murray leads the Central Powers. Two Murrays?...I zink their ist ein connection hier!

Saturday Night Recap
The drums of France sounded as Napoleon's legions battled a combined Anglo-Russian-Austrian-Prussian army. Jeff Murray hosted the battle using his 25mm Napoleonics figures on a map covering eight tables. Jeff's miniatures were a beautiful collection of French, British, Scottish, Prussian, Austrian, and Russian figures superbly painted by Jeff. Six players took part playing the two sides. The rules used were created by Jeff and used Napoleon's Battles movement cards. Paul, Mark and Ed commanded the combined allied army as they attacked the French forces under the command of Jeff, Lamont and Robert. As Mark and Ed assaulted the French center and right flanks, Lamont counter-attacked the Allied right pushing back Paul's Prussian forces. The French under Jeff and Robert fought a fierce delaying action in the center and right preventing the Allies from capturing their objectives prior to them having to abandon their attack due to darkness. Ed's Austrians did drive the French from the walled farm on the extreme right of the French line, but could not exploit the situation prior to the calling of the game. Everyone involved had the great time pushing Jeff's miniatures and all look forward to playing another game in the future. To see different pictures of the game, click on links below:

Here is Marshall Murray's Battle synopsis: "The French started on defense but they soon went on offense and swept the left flank after General Sanchez abandoned General Womble's left by redeploying the center forces to help General Strecker take the hill on the right flank. This "ill conceived" maneuver cleared the way for French cavalry to take out several British battalions while French Lights cleared the far left. General Womble's forces valiantly fought to stay the French onslaught but time was destined to undo this noble
warrior. General Womble reportedly swore an oath of retribution at General Sanchez as Sanchez's forces road into the sunset... ("Pray I don't survive this day Sanchez for you will rue the day we meet again!")
General Sanchez described the battle synopsis as: "This is a perfect example of both Revisionist History and Yellow Journalism!"
In addition to Jeff's game, Walt Williams hosted a WFG scenario for four club members. All four who played had another intense battle that only Walt's World War II miniatures rules could produce.

Saturday Night Recap
Saturday night saw the skies over 1939 Poland full of planes battling for air supremacy as Larry hosted his Distinguish Flying Cross game using 1:300 scale aircraft miniatures. Eight players participated in a battle between Polish PZL P.11 fighters and Luftwaffe Me 109's. Each side had its own mission: The Polish: successfully protect the return of two Polish bombers on a surveillance mission and the defence of their airfield. The Germans: to bomb the Polish airfield and successfully withdraw from the area. In a bloody battle where over six planes were shot down both sides successfully competed their missions.

Saturday Night Recap
This past Saturday saw World War II and Sci-Fi being the generas of play for the evening. Luis, Lamont, and Robert hosted three Flames of War (FOW) games while Paul Womble and Larry hosted sci-fi games. The FOW games were late-war scenarios set amongst the bocage of Normandy. Each game pitted an Allied force taking on a German defender.
In the first fight, Lamont's Canadians took on Dan Cooper's Germans in the big fight in, over and around the bocage. Lamont launched a two prong attack that met fierce resistance that stymied his Canucks. Dan's excellent use of the terrain kept Lamont at bay throughout the evening.
Robert's Grenadiers tooks on a American Armored Rifle company being commanded by David Kuklin. David's repeated assautls against the German right flank were unable to break through the German defenses and Dave was forced to withdraw.
Luis took on two newcomers to Flames of War giving them some hands-on instruction of the finer points of the game.
As the fate of Normady was being decided on the other side of the room, Larry and Andy played Robo Rally, while Paul ran his sci-fi miniatures game shown below.

Tacticon 2007 Recap
Each Labor Day weekend, the Denver Gamers Association sponsors its second gaming convention of year; Tacticon 2007. Two CSGA members, Lamont Anderson and Paul Womble, sponsored events this year in support of the convention. Paul Womble ran one event while Lamont hosted three events during the convention including the "In Memory of Clayton R. Bush - Napoleon's Battles" Tournament in honor of Clay who passed away in June. Each event went off well and everyone who participated in the events had a good time. On Friday, 1 September, Paul hosted his Sci-Fi alternate-timeline game "Operation Torch: Oran" using the Gear Krieg Tactical Rules by Dream Pod 9. Below are a few pre game pictures of Paul and of the initial layout of the game table.
Also on Friday, Lamont ran his first event of the convention, "Stellar Conquest," a space exploration game. Below are pictures of Lamont after setting up the gaming table, of some of the game miniatures, and of some of the participants prior to the start of the game.
Saturday morning Lamont ran his computer moderated World War I naval game; "Fear God & Dread Naught." Lamont has run this game a number times at the Tacticon and Genghis Con conventions in Denver and each time the game has been well received. On Sunday, Lamont ran his final event, the "In Memory of Clayton R. Bush - Napoleon's Battles" Tournament. Clay had run this tournament for many years at this convention and at Genghis Con and Lamont felt it was important that Clay's tournament should again be run.

Clay Bush Memorial Game Day Recap
On Saturday, 18 August, the CSGA held its Clay Bush Memorial Game Day in honor of Clayton Bush a long-tme CSGA member and avid miniature gamer who passed way on June 12th, 2007. Clay was a gracious man who loved gaming and he will be missed by all who knew him. So to remember him and his passion for gaming, the CSGA hosted a series of games throughout the day on Saturday. Nine games in three gaming sessions were played during the day covering a wide a variety of time periods. Games from the American Revolution throught the Civil War, the First and Second World Wars to into the future were played. Below is a picture from the evening session showing some of those who attended the event.
During the evening session, four games were played including a Flames of War (FOW) scenario and an American Civil War Game using modified Napoleon's Battles II rules developed by Dick Fickes. Four players fought a North African FOW battle while Luis Nunez, Dick Fickes and Ed Strecker (not shown) fought the Tulahoma Campaign in June of 1863 in the wilds of Tennessee.
Also during Game Day Paul Womble tested a game he is hosting at Tacticon in Denver over Labor Day weekend. The game was an alernate history-pulp World War II game using the Gear Krieg rule set by Dream Pod 9. Jeff Murray and Paul play tested the scenario to see if any tweeking to the rules needed to be made prior to Tacticaon. Both said the game test showed some areas in the game balance that needed to be addressed to make the game more of success.

Everyone involved in setting up the Game Day wish to express their sincere thanks to everyone who came and participated. Clay loved to game and he would have appreciated seeing so many people gaming at the club in remembrance of him.

Saturday Game Night Recap.
Sci-Fi and Napoleonics were the themes this week as Lamont hosted Starmata and Dick Fickes hosted Napoleon's Battles. Lamont's furturistic tactical space game was a rematch of an game held the week before. The defenders last week thought they could do a better job capturing the objective space station than the attackers the week before. In a bloody afair the attackers captured the space station one turn faster than the other group, but it wasn't the big victory they boasted they would achieve prior to the start of the game.
While the space ships dueled in the future, Ed Strecker and Dick Ficks fight a Napoleonic battle.

16 Apr 2007: Saturday Night Recap
Three games were played last Saturday night: Larry Neal's ongoing Blue Max WWI aerial campaign: Walt Williams' WRG game; and, Peter Turner played Old Trousers, a Napoleonic miniatures game, with Luis.
Eight players took part in playing Blue Max which consisted of two engagements over the Western Front resulting in two victories for the Allies. The first engagement saw two Allied planes being jumped by four German fighters. The odds quickly changed when two additioanal Allied planes arrived to even the sides. In a close fought battle the Allies drove off the Germans after shooting down one of their planes. The second engagement had two German fighters protecting an observation plane from four Allied planes. The observation plane held its own for most of the engagement, but eventually was shot down over no-man's land. Though the pilot was killed in the crash, the observer did survive and no doubtedly will return to fight on against the Allies.

8 Apr 2007: CSGA Game Day... a success!
The CSGA's March 2007 Game Day was held on Saturday, 31 March and from all indications, everyone who attended had a great time playing the different games presented.
The day started off with a couple of War World I era games being played. CSGA Vice-President Larry Neal hosted his Blue Max WW I air combat game pitting 1917 and 1918 fighter aircraft of the Allied and Central powers against each other. Six players participated and there were numerous kills over
the Western Front. Lamont Anderson hosted his computer moderated WWI naval warfare game Fear God and Dread Nought. Lamont's game was a what-if scenario pitting Hipper's German battlecruiser flotilla against Beatty's battlescruiser squadron prior to the Battle of Jutland. Another six players participated to see if Beatty's squadron could catch and defeat the Germans.
In the afternoon, World War II and the 17th Century were the feature eras of play. Dick Fickes hosted a modified Napoleon's Battles game depicting the last siege of the Spanish Hapsburg garrison in Vienna. This was cavalry heavy game with a lot of charges and counter-charges taking place. Below are a few snap-shots of the game in process showing the multitudes of cavalry units battling
before Vienna.
While the battle for Vienna raged, Walt Williams hosted his World War II skirmish game depicting a Soviet assualt against small German detachment defending a small snow covered hilltop. 10 players participated as the Germans desperately tried to fend off the Bolshevik assault.
As the battle progressed, the Bolsheviks, supported by a T-34 tank, successfully assaulted the German right depicted in the pictures below.
The day wrapped up with two near-modern era games. The first depicted Korean War air combat hosted by Larry Neal using his home-grown Distinguish Flying Cross aerial combat rules. Six people took part in the air duel depicting two US fighter jockies taking on four North Korean and Russian jets.
The second game was a Vietnam War era game hosted by Greg Elliot that six people played. The goal was to rescue a shot-down helicopter crew and recover the wreckage before their capture by the Viet Cong. This was a particarly bloodly game with numerous US and Allied helicopters being shot down by the black pajama gang.
All-in-all the day was very much a success. Six very entertaining games were put on by club members and everyone who participate had a real good time. The CSGA staff would like to thank everyone who came and look forward to holding another game day later-on this year.

25 Mar 2007: Saturday Recap
Larry's Blue Max
Campaign saw 11 determined airmen do battle over the Western Front Saturday night. Five German
aircraft engaged six Allied pilots over no-man's land in a grueling encounter that saw numerous
planes shot down. Andy came away with three Allied kills when the dogfight ended while his wingman
Robert was shot down three times! Below you see our courageous fighter-jockeys contemplating their
next aerial maneuvers on the left and on the right two smoking Allied planes try to break free from
their pursuers.
While the skies over World War I France were being contested, Walt Williams re-ran his WFG scenario from March 17th. Walt wanted to play-test some modifications to his scenario he made to make the scenario more balanced for both sides. Here you see Walt working with Luis prepare their defense as two Russian T-34's move to support the attacking Soviet infantry.

19 Mar 2007: Saturday Recap
After a short hiatus from gaming, Walt Williams returned to the club and ran a WFG scenario Saturday night. The setting for his game was World War II during the winter on the Eastern Front. The battle saw elements of a German mountain company attempting to hold a ridge line against a Soviet infantry assault supported by Soviet armor. Nine people participated in the game which saw the Germans decisively beat back the Soviet attack! The picture below shows the Soviets attacking both ends of the German line with four T34's slowly moving up in the background.
Also played Saturday was a test of a battalion level Napoleonic rule set called "Old Trousers." Pete Turner brought the game rules and his miniatures to the club and he and Lamont fought a battle allowing Lamont to see how Old Trousers compared to the "Napoleon's Battles" gaming system.
This coming Saturday (24 Mar) Larry Neal will be running his Blue Max World War I aerial campaign again. Hopefully those who got shot down two weeks ago have learned from that experience and will be ready to reverse the outcome this week!

27 Jan 2007: CSGA Game Night Recap
Two battles for aerospace dominance took place Saturday between Allied and Central Powers' duking it out over the fields of World War I France and between Cylons and Colonial Warriors in deep space. Larry hosted his Blue Max
World War I fighter game in preparation for his Blue Max Campaign he and our club President Andy will be kicking off in March. While Fokkers, Sopwiths, and Spads fought over France, Luis hosted his first Battlestar Galatica battle at the club. Four Cylon base-ships took on four Colonial Battlestars to see which space fleet would reign supreme in a head-on battle. Both battles saw numerous casualties on all sides throughout the evening and Luis came away with a lot of good comments and suggestions to make his new game even better!

12 Jan 2007: Greetings CSGA Members
As your new President, I would like to thank all the members of the club for your support. Once again Sand Creek Police Station will once again remain our meeting hall on Saturdays for the 2007 Gaming Year. For those who are unaware, I am your newly elected President, Larry Neal as VP, and Robert Scholtz as the Secretary & Treasurer.
Rob hopes the weather will be nice enough so he can drive off the Mountain and attend this weeks meeting… His plans are to collect membership dues for the 2007 Year.
Our paperwork for utilizing the Sand Creek Police Station has been turned in and approved.
PLEASE NOTE: on the following dates, the Community Room may not be available until 6PM.
If the Community Room is occupied, PLEASE be polite and do not disturb the other organizations. THANK YOU.
Short Term:
I would like to announce that Larry & I will be running a Blue Max Campaign (a WW I aerial wargame) starting in March. On 13 January and TBA February, we will be running a demo games to build interest (it is not true DFC). The campaign games will be played at least once a month. So come have fun and fly the “Friendly Skies” over the French Countryside of late 1917 WW I. Please RSVP to Larry or myself if you are interested in the Demo’s or the campaign. The Campaign will begin in Nov 1917. ALL aircraft prior to this date are available to players. For a quick reference chart, please look at chart located on http://www.generalissue.com/canvas.html
It is recommended that you do not pick a dog for a mount (for example, a British BE 2). To make the game more interesting, players will be asked to consider building 2 aircraft, either a fighter or a 2 seater… Please consider building at least one Allied & one Central Powers (German, Austro-Hungarian or Turkish- YES Mr Ed, you can have it your way!)… That way there is NO 15 German’s vs. one Brit or Frog! PLEASE keep your color schemes somewhat historical (sorry Little Dave, still NO Nebraska Tiger Stripes!!!!!!!!!!!!)! Any questions concerning the Blue Max Campaign should be addressed to either Larry or myself.
One of my promises to the CSGA was to sponsor a Game Day. Target Date is currently set for 31 March. POC is currently myself… Anyone interested in running a game during Game Day, please feel free to contact me. I like to advertise & open the event to the public! The goal is to increase interest in the local community, increase membership in our club & have fun. More information to follow!

President: Andy Oertig
These three individuals were unaminously elected and begin their duty in January 2007. The CSGA has already begun issuing its 2007 membership cards and is looking for persons interested in miniature gaming to come to one of the club's gaming days and see about joining.

CSGA has been gaming at Sand Creek Police Station for nigh onto 15 years. As a gesture of appreciation, the club commisioned artist and club member Les Keffel to paint a Minute Man figure for presentation to the Division ccommander at Sand Creek. These two images show Mike Garland making the presentation to Commander Rod Walker, and the display of the Minute Man in his office.
